Drop-Down Menu

Postby Andria on Sat May 02, 2009 6:47 am

Hi Don!

First off, great theme. :D I'm using it for a business that I am starting up, and have a launch date set this summer.

I am wanting to plug in drop down menus, such as you have on your home page. I installed the Multi-Level Navigation Plugin, which installed successfully, but I am having a hard time getting it to override the existing menu.

Can you tell me what you used? Or, if you have any customization for the Chiro theme for a drop-down menu?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Andria - thank you! I'm glad you like the theme.

Out of the box the Chiropractor2Web theme does not support sub-menus. But we've had several requests for this and we are working on providing it as a standard part of the theme.

In the meantime, we've been using the plugin you mentioned (PixoPoint Multi-Level Navigation) to add submenus to the theme for a few clients that have requested it. Currently we have to install it because it involves modifying some of the theme files.

You seem pretty tech saavy - I can send you some instructions on how to configure it if you would like.

Don,

That would be great if you could send the instructions! I tried unsuccessfully to edit the style and header, and got no where doing it myself.

Ok Andria - I have it documented but need to clean up one section of it. I'll send it over to you via PM as soon as I get it ready.
Thanks!

Hi Don

I'd like to use drop down menu's also. I see the last post was on may 6th by chance have you finished the plugin yet? I see you have documentation on using PixoPoint Multi-Level Navigation with your template. Would it be possible to get that documentation if your plugin is not going to be available for a while?

Great template thanks

Hi Evan,
Yes we have the drop-down menus completed! I just need to package up the upgrade instructions and the new zip file. I'll get that posted here tonight or tomorrow.

Good news Andria, Evan, we've got the drop-down menus ready to go. And you don't even need a Plugin to get the submenu functionality! Here are the upgrade instructions:

Upgrading to Version 1.2 of the Chiropractor2Web WordPress Theme.

Version 1.2 includes the following additions and fixes:
- Added the hCard microformat for business information
- Ability to have Sub-menus using the Wordpress native Child-Parent function
- Formatting and layout issues caused by long business names is solved
- Continue Reading function using the <more> tag for blog posts is now enabled
- Link to Help and Tutorials can now be found in the Theme Options Panel
- Option to exclude your email address from the page header
- Long home-page business descriptions will wrap-around the left
image, eliminating white space.

-We highly recommend that you back up ALL theme files and your
Database prior to upgrading to Version 1.2.
You can upgrade from any version to 1.2. This upgrade is all-inclusive.

Please note that the update process simply consist of overwriting your
existing template files, in addition, one new folder will be uploaded
containing Javascript for the Sub-menu function.

-No worries, your posts, pages and uploaded images will not be touched
and stay exactly where they are.

Take a close look at the file list below. Should you have modified any
of these files, you must copy-paste your modifications over into the
new file with the same name.

Please log into your Wordpress account and visit the Theme Options
Page after you uploaded all files. You will need to re-enter the email
address displayed in your header under your business address. This
step is optional. If you do not wish to display an email address
simply leave the field empty. No further action is required.

Files being modified:

header.php
index.php
page.php
posts.php
functions.php
footer.php
style.css

css folder
(containing:
screen.css
print.css
black, blue, grey.css)

Upgrade Instructions:
1) Unzip the Archive file named Upgrade 1.2
2) Log-in to your hosting server using an FTP-client of your choice
3) Locate the Expand2Web Theme folder located in the WordPress Themes directory
4) Backup your existing theme files
5) Upload the new theme files, overwriting the existing files

Download
========
And here is a link to download the v1.2 upgrade files.

Good morning Don,

Thank you for the link to the upgrade. I don't have an Expand2Web Theme folder. I do have a chiro folder. Is this where the upgrade should be installed to?

Thanks for everything Don
